ABOUT AUDREY HENSON

Audrey Henson is a conservative Republican who grew up in St. Petersburg, FL and to this day calls the Sunshine City her home. Audrey’s experience growing up in a single-parent, low-income household in St. Pete helped shape the person she has become, and who she aims to assist every day. Driven by her deep faith in Christ, Audrey has made it her mission to dedicate her life to service.

Despite being labeled “at risk” at the age of 10, Audrey worked hard to achieve the American Dream. Audrey started a small construction business and founded a nationally recognized nonprofit. She is a champion of the working class and a fearless defender of our God given freedoms.

Audrey grew up in a home that struggled with substance abuse. Her father suffered from extreme opioid addiction and was in and out of the prison system. This in turn left her young mother to raise three children essentially alone, all while working full-time. Being forced to rely heavily on government welfare programs, Audrey experienced firsthand its drastic failures and shortcomings fueling her fire to take on big government and reform policies that are designed to help, but ultimately just reinforce cycles of poverty.

Where Audrey did see light shine through her father’s life, was when he was working. She saw how impactful work was for her father’s recovery and how it ultimately gave purpose to his life. Those experiences and Audrey’s immense Christian faith shaped her worldview and instilled in her the core conservative values – self-determination, individual responsibility, opportunity, freedom, and the central importance of hard work.

While studying at the University of South Florida, Audrey quickly found out working two part-time jobs and taking out student loans was the norm for people from her economic background even after receiving the Florida Bright Futures scholarship. That experience in college and working to secure internships on Capitol Hill proved that her experience was a microcosm of Congress in general – the system was designed to help elites get access and opportunity, while leaving working-class people behind. So, Audrey got to work to fix it.

After college, she founded the incredibly successful nonprofit, College to Congress, designed to help students from low-income backgrounds like herself, intern and work in Congress. A former intern for Senator Marco Rubio, Audrey was especially successful in helping develop the next generation of conservative leaders on Capitol Hill. Her students have interned for leading conservative figures, including President Donald J. Trump, Governor Ron DeSantis, Senator Tim Scott, Senator Marsha Blackburn, House Minority Whip Steve Scalise and more.

While CEO of College to Congress, she led efforts to secure $48 million in congressional appropriations for the House Paid Internship Program. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Audrey successfully launched C2C-University (C2C-U), a free tech platform that prepares students for public service internships. Through C2C-U, College to Congress has provided internship opportunities and jobs to over 1,500 students from across the country, including veterans.

Audrey also started By The Bay Bobcats, a woman-owned and family-operated construction business focused on excavation, demolition and hardscaping in Pinellas. Audrey’s goal for By The Bay Bobcats is to provide homeowners the opportunity to affordably improve the value of their homes in a manner that preserves Pinellas County’s beautiful waterways in the Gulf and Bay.

Audrey Henson currently resides in Pinellas County with her husband, Andrew, and beagle, Cooper.
